Home is not a place, it’s a feeling. I’ve had the most wonderful time finding, buying and decorating our new home, and today you get to have the tour!
The day you get the keys to your new home – what a feeling. The minute you walk in and realise you have a blank canvas to work with and the potential to make your home your ‘everything’. For me home is a sanctuary, a nurturing centre where we can grow, feel good and do the things we want in the space we love.
Right from the very beginning I had a defined creative brief, and with the selections from OZ Design Furniture, we made it real. Here are some guiding tips from my style direction that you can easily borrow and adapt for your space.
Kitchens are normally defined by hi-tech innovations in appliances, and sleek design. Whilst I find that appealing I was craving elements of earthiness in the kitchen -elements that would marry well with a contemporary design. Adding the Cantina bar stools in white/oak, not only complimented the timber flooring but further softened the entire look and feel of the kitchen. Having an open plan design, I wanted to make sure that I could shift pieces around (like seating) when we entertain and that they wouldn’t look out of place.
I’ve always loved boho because quite frankly it honours the rebel in me!
Bohemian chic is a style direction that doesn’t force you to stick to rules. This style of interior can be random and busy, but also minimalist at the same time, which is the reason I am so attracted to it. I kept to a natural colour palette embracing the rich textures of timber, and mixing in a little marble as seen on my duo of the Smile coffee and side tables, along with the Argentina tribal inspired rug. I balanced the look with some soft throws and cushions, because tactile accents create incredible warmth in a space.
Products featured: Smile side table, Argentina rug in Morocco, Sigrid floor lamp and Saba chair in natural rattan.
COMFORT AND STYLE
I don’t believe in making sacrifices of comfort when it comes to designing interiors. Sofas occupy such an important part of our homes, and our daily lives. It’s where we get to relax, snooze, play, laugh and welcome people, so choosing a sofa that was incredibly comfortable was high on the agenda. A quick test drive revealed that the Australian made Nova sofa could deliver on all of the above with the added bonus of being able to have it made in custom Warwick Fabric, as well as a variety of configurations – without having to wait around for weeks for delivery. I chose Husk ocean fabric for its warmth and maintenance free feel.

LEATHER AND TIMBER
Yes indeed, I mixed it up a little! I absolutely love the minimalist yet rich feel of the Kote dining suite and bench seats, and added a hint of vintage brown leather with the Sanata chairs, to break up uniformity but also to introduce some masculine elements to the space, finishing off with a piece of equestrian art to add flow and richness.
Products featured: Jasper mirror in whitewash, Kote bench seats and dining table, Sanata dining chairs in tan leather, Sigrid floor lamp and Lone Mustang artwork.
BOYS WILL BE BOYS
It was important for me that the boys have a space of their own where they can chill out, be creative, but also a space that will cater for their leisure time at home without feeling dated as they grow older. The Middleton ladders are perfect for maintaining a clutter-free home, and with one each the boys won’t fight over ownership. Made with natural pine, they fit the brief perfectly giving our home a cohesive look. The Darby Entertainment Unit adds some much needed storage, and the perfect place to hide messy items such as DVD collections and board games.
We are truly settled and nurtured in our new home. The selections from OZ Design Furniture represent the style, workmanship and quality I desired for our space, and it all came together so effortlessly thanks to their diverse range.
